A hen party in Lisbon that everyone remembers, and no one has to be carried home from. You paint your own azulejo tile, mimosa in hand, then eat the best pastel de nata in the neighbourhood. It runs 1h30, up in Graça above the city, and it costs 75€ a head. The bride keeps a tile with her name on it instead of a hangover.
What actually happens
Everyone gets their own tile, a brush, and real mineral pigments. A teacher shows you the majolica technique, the same one used on the facades all over Lisbon, then leaves you to it. You can copy a pattern or paint whatever you want. No one in the group has done this before, and that is the point.
A mimosa cocktail comes with it, made with proper Portuguese bubbles, and there is a pastel de nata tasting on the side. The tiles are fired overnight in the kiln, so each person collects a finished, glazed tile the next day. Everyone leaves with a souvenir that is actually theirs, not a fridge magnet from a shop.
Why it beats a bar crawl
You can hear each other. That sounds obvious until you have tried to organise twelve people around a loud table on a Saturday night. Here everyone is sitting down, doing something with their hands, and the photos come out well because people are concentrating instead of posing.
It also works for the person who does not drink, the one who is pregnant, and the one who booked the flights and wants something to show for the weekend. One activity, everyone included.
Where it happens
Rua da Senhora do Monte 38C, in Graça, on the hill above Alfama. Five minutes from the Tram 28 Graça stop. The Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, the highest viewpoint in the city, is a minute from the door, so the group photo takes care of itself before or after the session.
Graça is quieter and more residential than the centre, which is part of why it works for a group. You are not fighting the crowds to get everyone in one place.
How to plan it for a group
Book ahead and tell us how many you are. Sessions run at 10:30 and 15:00, seven days a week. If you are a big group or you want the room to yourselves, the same atelier also runs fully private and corporate sessions for up to 50 people, with catering and custom tiles. See tile painting workshops for groups for that.
Coming for the weekend? The tile is ready the next day, so plan the pickup around the rest of your plans. There is plenty to do nearby: read 24 hours in Graça.
Booking your hen party
The hen party experience is 75€ per person for 1h30: one tile each, a mimosa, and a pastel de nata. Book your hen party here, or see the full group experiences and where to find us. Book the 15:00 slot if half the group is arriving that morning.
Questions we get asked
How many people can come?
A normal hen group is fine as a standard booking. For larger parties or a private room, we run custom group sessions for up to 50 people. Tell us your numbers when you book.
Does everyone paint their own tile?
Yes, one tile per person, and each one is fired and ready to collect the next day.
What if someone does not drink?
The mimosa is optional and there is no pressure. The tile and the pastel de nata are the real point.
Do we need any experience?
None. The artist guides the whole group, and beginners get good results in 90 minutes.
Can we do it as part of a bigger day out?
Yes. Many groups pair it with the azulejo walking tour, or with the viewpoint and lunch in Graça right after.
